Using TossLess
How does TossLess know when food goes bad?
When you add a food, TossLess suggests a use-by date based on how long that food usually keeps in the fridge, freezer or pantry. The guidance comes from the USDA FoodKeeper. Cooked leftovers are given 3 days. If the package has a printed date, tap “Pick date” and enter it: your date always wins over the estimate.
Are the dates and food guides safe to rely on?
They are estimates to help you plan, not a guarantee. Food can spoil sooner if it was stored warm, opened, or handled a lot. Always check the look, smell and texture, and follow the date on the package. When in doubt, throw it out.
How do I mark food as eaten, frozen or tossed?
On the Home screen, swipe a food to the left, or tap it to open its details. “Freeze it” moves it to the freezer and gives it a new date.
A barcode wasn't found
Product names come from Open Food Facts, a free database that doesn't know every product. If a barcode isn't found, type the name and pick a category, and we'll estimate the date. Barcode lookups also need an internet connection. Without one, you can still add the food by typing it.
Reminders
I'm not getting the daily reminder
- Check that notifications are on: iOS Settings › TossLess › Notifications.
- In TossLess, go to Settings › Daily reminder and check the time.
- By default, the reminder is skipped on days when nothing is expiring. You can change this with “Skip reminder when nothing is expiring”.
- Open TossLess once in a while. Reminders are planned a week ahead and refreshed each time you open the app.
- Focus modes and Do Not Disturb can hide notifications.
TossLess Pro and purchases
What does Pro include?
Unlimited items (the free plan holds 20 at a time), Stats with money saved and what you toss most, and recipes from what's expiring.
I bought Pro but it isn't active
Open TossLess › Settings › Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy it. Make sure you have an internet connection.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions › TossLess, and choose Cancel Subscription. Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Does the free trial cost anything?
The yearly plan may include a free trial. You won't be charged if you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Your iPhone shows the exact trial length and price before you confirm.
Your data
Where is my food list stored? Can I use it on another device?
Your list is stored only on your iPhone. There is no account and no sync between devices yet. Deleting the app deletes your list. Read more in the Privacy Policy.
